Every person is a social and sexual being and everyone deserves to experience healthy relationships and sexual and reproductive health. Yet young people with disabilities in Oregon are more likely than their peers without disabilities to experience relationship violence and sexual assault. Shanya Luther will provide an introduction of the topic. She writes, speaks and presents about all facets of sexuality, gender, and relationships; utilizing an ecological framework, attachment theories, developments in neurobiology, and trauma informed care. Nadia will talk about her unique perspective and insight pertaining to holistic sex education. April Kayser will provide a call to action.

The Department may not withhold approval of materials that otherwise meet the criteria specified in this Section on the basis that they include or refer to a religious or faith based perspective. The Committee established a process to review and approve the sex education material to assess whether it met the standards outlined in the statute. The IDHS approved the sex education materials listed below. The sex education materials may change to include other materials submitted, evaluated and approved by the Committee.
